Big Wood River Breakdown: Big Woody Debris

Big Wood River Breakdown: Big Woody Debris

Got questions? Miles has answers. In this month's Big Wood River Breakdown, we're talking LWD- Large Woody Debris- or, if you prefer the highly scientific term, Big Wood.

LWD does the heavy lifting in a river. It redirects flow, dissipates energy, and builds complexity- everything a river needs to keep from becoming a flat, featureless ditch. It traps sediment, stabilizes banks, and carves out deep pools where fish can rest and feed. Take the wood out, and the river speeds up, banks erode, channels cut deeper, and fish habitat disappears.

Tune in as Miles breaks it down. Remember to send us an email (mendit@projectbigwood.org) with your questions- we'll tackle it in the next Big Wood River Breakdown.
